Heart attack is the lay term for what doctors call an acute myocardial infarction. Many years ago, the experience of President Eisenhower, another politician in the public eye, indelibly etched a picture of a heart attack as a catastrophic health event. The ambulance brought her to the Emergency Department where the doctors quickly diagnosed her with a heart attack. If Eisenhower experienced his heart attack today he might have been treated within minutes and returned to work within a week.
