According to new survey results shared with the Star, older women suffered the sharpest decline in how they perceived their mental health from April 2019 to December 2020. And while older women reported the biggest drop in mental health perceptions, the survey found that the situation facing young women, even before the pandemic hit its stride, was just as worrisome. Among those aged 18 to 29, one in two women — compared to 27 per cent of young men — rated their mental health as fair or poor. The reason older and younger women reported worse experiences with mental health was outside the scope of the survey. She recently announced that she would not be seeking re-election, but told the Star mental health wasn’t a key part of the decision.
