Rishi Sunak unveiled a new, expanded job protection scheme today as more and more areas of the UK appear set to head into lockdown. The Chancellor announced that his Job Support Scheme (JSS) unveiled only last month as part of a now scrapped Winter Economic Plan, was being beefed up. Workers at firms legally forced to close by coronavirus regulations are eligible for the scheme. The scheme is UK wide and the UK government will work with the devolved administrations to ensure the scheme operates effectively across all four nations. Businesses do not need to have previously used the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme (furlough) to be eligible for the new support.
