Formerly a coach at Chelsea under Jose Mourinho, he was most recently involved in the game as assistant manager at Aston Villa in 2015. A member of the 1982 and '86 World Cup squads, Wilkins became the first England player to be sent off in a tournament during the first group game against Portugal at '86. Spells at Paris Saint Germain, Rangers and QPR followed, before he accepted player manager roles at first Crystal Palace, before heading back to QPR in a similar capacity. After QPR, Wilkins spent time at Wycombe Wanderers, Hibernian, Millwall and Leyton Orient before his retirement in 1997.
