Panneerselvam, who is an MLA from Bodinayakanur Assembly constituency in Theni district, has been chief minister twice earlier. He served as the chief minister for six months, from September 21, 2001 to March 1, 2002. SECOND TERM AS CHIEF MINISTEROn September 29, 2014, Pannerselvam took over from Jayalalithaa as Tamil Nadu's 17th chief minister when she was convicted in the disproportionate assets case. On the other hand, Jayalalithaa held Public, Indian Administrative Service, Indian Police Service, Indian Forest Service, General Administration, District Revenue Officers, Police and Home Affairs portfolios. With Jayalalithaa in the ICU, Tamil Nadu Governor Vidyasagar Rao allocated the portfolios held by Jayalalithaa to Panneerselvam on October 11.It was also decided that Panneerselvam will also head the Cabinet meetings.
