He, thus, earned the nickname ‘dark horse.’ His influence on Chinese intellectuals was often dubbed as “Liu Xiaobo Shock” or “Liu Xiaobo Phenomenon.”The 1989 pro-democracy demonstrations at Tiananmen Square was a turning point in his life.
