Tomorrow is the 100th Anniversary of the American Association of Advertising Agencies, the 4A’s. In its honor, here is one man’s opinion of the greatest creatives, copywriters and art directors, of the past 100 years. For example, it is breathtaking to observe what a long shadow Bill Bernbach cast on the industry by elevating it into a respectable place in the cultural conversation. Bill Bernbach (1911-1982), Doyle Dane BernbachBernbach led The Creative Revolution in 1960s, when the industry produced work of unprecedented creativity influenced by the counter-culture. David Ogilvy (1911-1999), Ogilvy & MatherOgilvy disliked ads that had loud, patronizing voices, and believed a customer should be treated intelligently.
