Gretchen Whitmer talked the current state of democracy, politics and the media with CNN Anchor Chris Wallace on Wednesday, March 8, on the University of Michigan’s campus. UM President Santa Ono provided the opening remarks, one day after he was officially inaugurated as head of the university. Chris Wallace is the son of the UM Wallace House Center for Journalists’ namesake, Mike Wallace. Students were able to ask Whitmer and Wallace questions directly during a question-and-answer period to wrap up the discussion. Education is key, Whitmer said, stating there are people in politics who didn’t understand their role in government before entering office.
