The Caps kick off their 2020 MLS campaign at home against SKC on Saturday, Feb. 29 — a 7:30 p.m. kickoff — in a game against the team that finished one spot above them in the standings last year. The 2019 season was a stunning fall from grace for Sporting. The Whitecaps are 2-4-2 all-time at home against Sporting, and 5-3-1 all-time mark in MLS season-openers, all of which have come at home. With 24 dates, home and away, going to intra-conference competition in a 34-game schedule, that means the Caps won’t see three teams from the East in 2020. Vancouver’s pre-season won’t start until Jan. 18 at the earliest, about three weeks before the primary transfer window (Feb. 12-May 5).
