In a corresponding move, the team designated right-handed pitcher Odrisamer Despaigne for assignment. Jay, 34, was placed on the injured list on March 25 with a strained right hip and has yet to make his regular-season debut. The White Sox signed the veteran to a one-year contract on Jan. 10. Despaigne, 32, was 0-2 with a 9.45 ERA (14 earned runs in 13 1/3 innings) in three starts with the White Sox since they brought him up from Charlotte on June 10.
