Vitiello had been scheduled to travel with President Donald Trump to the border on Friday, but was no longer going, one official said. ASSOCIATED PRESS Ron Vitiello, who has been acting director of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, was withdrawn on Thursday. He was previously Border Patrol chief and deputy commissioner U.S. Customs and Border Protection, which oversees the patrol. Department of Homeland Security officials referred questions to the White House, which did not respond to multiple requests for comment.
