Republican Sen. Jeff Flake demanded on Friday that the FBI be allowed up to a week to investigate allegations against Judge Kavanaugh before the full Senate considers his nomination. “It is critically important that the public be informed of any hidden effort to limit the scope of the FBI investigation,” Mr. Avenatti said. The FBI declined to comment on the reopening of Judge Kavanaugh’s background investigation, referring questions to the White House. “It will be a good thing.”Not being granted the authority to interview Ms. Swetnick wouldn’t necessarily preclude FBI investigators from asking other witnesses about her allegations. Judge Kavanaugh, who was defiant, angry and at times emotional throughout his testimony on Thursday, wouldn’t commit to a new FBI investigation when asked by Democrats to request one.
