There was a time, before we all became obsessed with Brexit, when the hottest topic was house prices. No middle-class dinner party was complete without a discussion of house prices, it was said. For some newspapers, house prices either booming or on the brink of a crash were staples for front-page splashes. Housing in Britain is quietly becoming more affordable. It is probably best to whisper this, for fear of frightening it away, but it is a reality.
