During the evening rush hour, A. Subramanian, a senior citizen, avoids taking the pavement on a section of DGS Dhinakaran Salai in Raja Annnamalaipuram, towards Greenways Road. During the evening rush hour, motorcyclists and cyclists ride on this pavement to avoid getting stuck in a traffic congestion. Pedestrians have requested Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) to put up bollards on this pavement to prevent motorists from taking what “belongs to” walkers. Adding to the chaos, vehicles are parked on the pavements and at several points, the pavement stones and manholes are broken. As the carriageway is wide enough, motorists ride at breakneck speed.
