A massive hunt has been launched for a British journalist who vanished in the Amazon rainforest just days after reportedly receiving death threats. Phillips and Pereira were reportedly travelling in a well-fuelled new boat and were using satellite communications equipment. A team of ten people from Brazil’s navy were dispatched yesterday to search for Phillips and Pereira. According to rights groups Univaja and OPI, the two men had “received threats in the field” last week. The area “is home to more than 20 indigenous groups, who have denounced activities by illegal miners, fishers and hunters”.
