more-inThe Akshaya Tritiya festival, which is believed to bring luck and prosperity, was celebrated in Puducherry on Wednesday with shoppers thronging jewellery outlets across the city. As per the Jain tradition, Akshaya Tritiya is the day of ‘ahara charya’. Jewellery showrooms in the city had stocked special items including gold coins in view of the occasion. Jewellers also said that there was a good response to the special sales on Akshaya Tritiya. Devanathan, owner of Deva Gold Mart said most of the outlets had opened their shops at 8.30 a.m. expecting a good turnout.
