When Cowboy Junkies graced a downtown Toronto church

You might know the Church of the Holy Trinity as a piece of calm tucked into a square beside the Eaton Centre’s crowded aisles. But did you know it was also where a Canadian band recorded an album that went double platinum? Twenty-nine years ago, folk and country group Cowboy Junkies recorded their most successful album, The Trinity Session, in that church. It sold more than 200,000 copies in Canada and more than a million in the U.S., giving it double platinum status in Canada and platinum across the border. The album was famously recorded on a single microphone on its original disc inside the church, giving it a DIY sound that indie-rock hipsters are still vying for today.
