Aquaman may not be the top movie of the weekend, but it’s still the proverbial top dog (or fish) of the moment. It’ll be the third-biggest DC Comics movie, the biggest DC Films earner and the second-biggest non-sequel solo superhero flick behind only Black Panther. Among all solo superhero movies, it’s behind the Dark Knight sequels, Iron Man 3 ($1.215 billion in 2013) and Black Panther ($1.346b in 2018). That film opened two weeks after Transformers: Dark of the Moon ($1.2b) in July of 2011. As noted on Monday, Aquaman joins Universal's Furious 7 ($1.5 billion in 2015) as Wan’s second such blockbuster.
