With $941 million worldwide (including $260m domestic), it’s not a question of if Aquaman will cross the $1 billion benchmark but when. Twenty-three of the 37 $1 billion+ grossers (counting Aquaman) are from directors who have “only” directed one $1b+ grosser. Once Aquaman passes $1 billion worldwide, James Wan will be the second director in history to have two $1b+ grossers that aren’t also part of the same ongoing franchise. When Aquaman crosses $1 billion, it’ll make James Wan the eighth filmmaker to have two of them on the list. Heck, if you want to be nitpicky and note that Paramount and Fox's Titanic is not a franchise, then I guess James Wan is the only guy who will have helmed two $1b+ grossers in two distinct and ongoing franchises.
