The house was empty and being worked on, so when those nearby heard the thieves stealing the copper spouting in the night, they phoned police immediately. The man slunk back to the barrow, containing his loot of copper spouting and loaded it into a car nearby. Police see spikes in copper thefts from time to time, Cherry said.
