A: Early in pregnancy the fetus may do "somersaults," and sometimes be head down (cephalic presentation) and sometimes be buttocks/feet down (breech presentation). A vaginal breech delivery may be more challenging than a delivery where there is a cephalic presentation. Even if ECV is successful (about two-thirds of cases), a small percentage of time the fetus may spontaneously revert to a breech presentation.
