What to bring back from P.E.I.

Prince Edward Island sisters Jessie and Mary Woods were just 10 and 9 respectively when they decided to turn their hobby of collecting shells, starfish and sand dollars washed up on the beach at low tide into a souvenir business. Jessie went to college in Moncton, N.B., and is now a hairstylist in Souris, P.E.I. Mary is in her third year at UNB Fredericton studying finance and economics, and says the shell business put her through two years of school. The women’s whimsical creations are sold at shops across the island and even at a couple of Toronto restaurants. I got my starfish Santa Claus Christmas tree ornament at the Canadian Potato Museum in O’Leary, P.E.I., for $7.99.
