What do we owe the people who protect us from the worst parts of the Internet?

Getting in the door at a huge, influential tech company may, in the abstract, sound like an exciting opportunity. Most of us don’t experience the Internet in its most untamed state, and most of us probably don’t want to. The fact that some social media sites are free to those of us who use them adds another layer of detachment to the whole affair. Because we don’t pay to maintain social media ecosystems, we’re removed from what it costs to run these companies in the way we’d prefer for them to function.
