The investigation has involved more than 20 Guardian journalists working across the world for the past six months. These projects are expected to increase Exxon’s production to around five million oil equivalent barrels a day by 20255. The Mad Dog area is estimated to hold 4bn barrels of oil equivalent. A BP drilling rig exploded, killing 11 workers and spewing about 4m barrels of oil into the Gulf.
