Like many a publishing person, my winter reading is dominated by design PDFs, printer proofs and advances of forthcoming titles. Watching a book blossom as it travels from manuscript to page to print never loses its thrill. The latest advance in hand is Matthew Wright’s The New Zealand Wars, the fifth of The NZ Series books, which Oratia publishes next week. It’s exciting to see Matthew’s work in final book form, and anticipate how readers will respond. Peter Dowling is a former president of the Publishers Association of New Zealand and founder of West Auckland-based indie publisher, Oratia Media, which last month was announced as Children’s Publisher of the Year, Oceania, at the Bologna Children’s Book Fair in Italy.
