Respondents overall run 38 percent of workloads in public cloud and 41 percent in private cloud (which may include cloud-enabled virtual environments). The challenge: many cloud services are being purchased, often from within the business, and then not even used. Cloud users are not doing all they can to optimize these costs, and underestimate the amount of wasted cloud spend. Managing software licenses in the public cloud is also a part of this equation, of course. In addition, cloud users are not fully leveraging the various cloud provider discounting options.
