The advertisement stated ‘Raise a G&T to fight Malaria.’ The sort of advertisement that many of my Gin & Tonic loving friends will appreciate. However, bad news for all Gin &Tonic lovers, drinking tonic water will not protect you from contracting malaria. According to the Travel Doctor, to get the required amount of quinine from Gin & Tonic to prevent contracting malaria, one would need to consume 67 liters of tonic water. If true, there are definitely easier ways to prevent Malaria, including medication, even if not as pleasant as sipping a glass of Gin & Tonic. Of course, the campaign does not suggest replacing anti-malaria tablets with Gin & Tonic.
