In 2005 Kevin Hearn, an art collector and the guitarist and keyboard player with the Canadian rock band Barenaked Ladies (you might remember their quirky 1998 hit One Week, plus they wrote the theme tune to the sitcom The Big Bang Theory), spent C$20,000 (£11,500) on a painting by Morrisseau called Spirit Energy of Mother Earth. In 2010 he lent his painting to the Art Gallery of Ontario, where a curator identified it as a fake.
