Then they became films, then TV series, then an entire Sherlock Holmes “universe”. Eleven years since Sherlock reinvented the idea of what a three-pipe problem could be, Netflix has offered us Enola Holmes (about a plucky young sister) and now The Irregulars, which concerns the teenage urchins who gather the unsavoury information from the street for Dr Watson (Holmes himself is elusive, which becomes its own overarching mystery).
