ARLINGTON – When the clock struck 5 p.m. Tuesday, and the trade deadline had passed, Martín Pérez felt no significant difference. Pérez allowed one run and tied a career high with nine strikeouts in six innings of a game the Rangers ultimately lost 6-3. It was the first time in franchise history the Rangers were swept in a season series by an American League opponent. It’s part of the reason the Rangers decided no trade offer was worth giving Pérez up before Tuesday’s deadline. It’s also part of the reason the Rangers are looking at Pérez as a potential extension candidate after what’s been far and away his best season.
