The BBC has been accused of normalising homophobic language by including the word “faggot” in a rendition of the Pogues’ Christmas song, Fairytale of New York. During the one-off Christmas special, which will air at 8.30pm on Christmas Day on BBC1, Nessa, played by Ruth Jones, and Uncle Bryn, played by Rob Brydon, sing the festive favourite originally performed by Shane MacGowan and Kirsty MacColl.
