However, thanks to the introduction of some key subs, most notably Lee Chin, Wexford gradually turned the tide. In the final 15 minutes of the half Kilkenny actually outscored the the home side by 0-4 to 0-3 to leave Fitzgerald's men seven points to good at the break (1-10 to 0-6).
