Wet weekend forecast for regionBraden Fastier/Fairfax NZ Surface flooding in Appleby after heavy rain in the Nelson region last night and forecast over much of the weekendThe Nelson region is set for significant downpours as a severe weather watch is put in place for much of Saturday. The MetService has forecast heavy rain for much of New Zealand as a complex low pressure system from the Tasman Sea brings northerly rain to many places, before moving away to the east on Sunday. Braden Fastier/Fairfax NZ Drivers should take extra care this weekend, with surface flooding already on a number of roads, including this one in Appleby. While heavy rain descended over the region overnight, emergency services have so far only been required to assist in minor incidents. Minor surface flooding was reported around Appleby and Tasman township around 8am.
