The North Island and upper regions of the South Island were set to bear the brunt of the stormy weather, MetService meteorologist Tom Bell warned. "There'll be some rain coming onto the West Coast of the South Island ... tomorrow [that is] going to start to move up the South Island. "That front is going to start to effect the North Island on Friday, that will bring a period of rain." Although spring was known as the changeable season, this kind of weather wasn't uncommon in summer, Bell said.
