HBOWe’re currently three episodes into Westworld season 2, a show that’s returned after a full year off and arrived transformed completely from what it was initially. While season 1 was about the gradual awakening of hosts like Dolores and Maeve, understanding what they were and how they were being abused by humans, season 2 is heavily focused on revenge. Fundamentally, I don’t think that Westworld works as well when it’s transformed into this mad scramble of action and survival and revolution. Dolores getting justice is…fine, but this show doesn’t really work as well now that it’s essentially Westworld: The Purge. Perhaps that will change in time, but that’s been my issue with this initial run of season 2 episodes.
