Westpac banking error sees payments taken twice from Govt accountsKIRK HARGREAVES/STUFF A double payment mistake from Westpac temporarily left the Government millions of dollars out of pocket. Westpac has been left scrambling to fix a banking error that saw a bulk funding education payment mistakenly made twice. It's not known exactly how much money Westpac had to claw back from early education providers. The figure was initially thought to be in the millions, but Westpac has since said it has discovered the payments "totalled less than a million dollars". The payments should have totalled $669m, made up of smaller payments to providers, many of which were paid twice.
