First-year corner back Kojo Odoom picked off a Tre Ford pass and ran it 65 yards for a touchdown to help the Western Mustangs hold off the hard-charging Waterloo Warriors for a 30-24 Yates Cup semifinal win Saturday at TD Stadium. The Mustangs were leading 23-17 about six minutes into the final quarter, but the Warriors stuck with them all game and their star quarterback was proving difficult to contain. Odoom’s first interception put the ball on the Mustangs 54-yard line and after a 15-yard pass to Brett Ellerman and 20-yard scramble by Mustangs quarterback Chris Merchant. Trey Humes ran in a two-yard touchdown to put Western up 19-14 nine minutes into the third quarter. Liegghio hit field goals of 39 and 21 yards in the second half to finish with five for the day.
