WestJet flight from Gatwick Airport to St. John's diverted to Ireland

St. John's bound WestJet flight WS25 was diverted Saturday due to a guest medical, West Jet spokesperson Lauren Stewart said. A passenger was taken to a local hospital for treatment, Nandi O'Sullivan, head of communications at the Shannon Airport, confirmed. The flight was headed to St. John's from Gatwick Airport, London's second largest airport, but was diverted to Shannon, Ireland, at 11:53 a.m. GMT Saturday, O'Sullivan said. O'Sullivan said because the diversion was unexpected, the airport had to perform an overweight landing.
