Flooding has ripped apart a capped landfill beside the Fox River in Westland. Toxins near the scene of a West Coast landfill that spewed decades of rubbish into a river have made it too hazardous for volunteers. The environmental disaster has left old landfill rubbish strewn along the West Coast. Specialist assistance had been sought to handle those areas, Westland District Council Mayor Bruce Smith said.
