After Calcutta changed into Kolkata, West Bengal is all set to be rechristened as Bengal in English and either Bangla or Banga in Bengali. The name West Bengal has a lot of emotions attached to it and people will not accept such a whimsical change. “We had proposed Bangla and Mamata herself had said in 2011 that it should rather be Paschim Bangla. After mulling on the idea for years, the state cabinet finally adopted the resolution to rename the state on Tuesday. After getting it ratified in a special meeting of the assembly it would be sent to the Centre for an approval by the houses of parliament.
