Wentworth Woodhouse sold to preservation trust for £7m - News Summed Up

Wentworth Woodhouse sold to preservation trust for £7m

Wentworth Woodhouse, a Grade I-listed Georgian mansion near Rotherham, in South Yorkshire, was in the headlines last year when the chancellor, Philip Hammond, announced a £7.6m grant to go towards essential maintenance while it was still in private hands. The completion of its £7m sale to the Wentworth Woodhouse Preservation Trust was confirmed on Monday. Why did the chancellor stump up £7.6m for Wentworth Woodhouse? Newbold’s family agreed to sell it to an investment company but the deal fell through and the trust agreed to the sale last year. Save said part of the building would be opened to the public with financial help from the National Trust.
