Even some Oxbridge colleges are turning their famous lawns into wildflower meadows. Nationally, we have lost 97% of wildflower meadows, the equivalent of 3m hectares (7.5m acres), since the 1930s. Since 2013, the charity Plantlife has worked with partners to create 5,000 hectares (12,000 acres) of wildflower meadows. Shorter grass Mowing once a month from April to November is best. The council has created an interactive city map showing where the wildflower meadows are.
