Wellington's rental prices cool, national rent stays at record highKEVIN STENT/STUFF Rising rental prices have forced many people to downsize. Trade Me's latest Rental Index found the median rent in the capital dipped $10 from January's record high of $490 per week. Wellington city saw high median rent prices, which peaked at $530 a week in February. Median rent on a national level remained at its record high of $470 per week. Jeffries said the 9.6 per cent growth in rent prices on smaller houses was due to rising rent prices forcing tenants to downsize.
