Wellington City Council gunning for landlords 'slow' to earthquake strengthen


Wellington City Council respond to the shock evacuation of Reading Cinema's building due to earthquake risk. Wellington City Council (WCC) wants to chop years off earthquake strengthening times for about 200 buildings as officials get nervous about the sluggish pace of earthquake repairs. It comes on the heels of a new push by city officials to contact landlords moving slowly on earthquake strengthening requests. Earthquake strengthening timeframes would be shortened to seven-and-a-half years if a request from Wellington City Council officers was pushed through at central government level.
