Weld Quay pedestrian bridge crash: Trailer driver arrested


GEORGE TOWN: Police have detained the driver of a trailer, whose heavy vehicle got caught at the iconic Weld Quay pedestrian bridge here this afternoon, badly damaging the structure. He said the driver had drove past the Tanjung Tokong Flats pedestrian bridge, the Jalan Sultan Ahmad Shah pedestrian bridge and the Lebuh Faquhar pedestrian bridge. “His vehicle got stuck when he drove past the Pengkalan Weld pedestrian bridge,” he added. The Weld Quay pedestrian bridge is one of the oldest pedestrian bridges in Penang. It is learnt that the pedestrian bridge will have to be taken down for safety reasons.
