Weightlifter Diaz ends PH’s 20-year medal draught in the OlympicsWeightlifter Hidilyn Diaz ended the Philippines’ two decades of medal draught in the Olympics by winning a silver medal in the Rio Games early Monday. The Philippines’ last Olympic silver medal came through pug Mansueto “Onyok” Velasco during the 1996 Atlanta Games. Competing in the 53-kg division, Diaz notched 88 in snatch and 112 in clean and jerk, for a total of 200. It was Diaz’s third straight Olympics appearance. Chinese Taipei’s Hsu Shu-Ching won the gold after scoring 212.
