I am wearing a souvenir shirt from Elton's 2006 concert in Wellington when he was promoting The Captain & The Kid. The Captain & the Kid (2006)It was a tall order to have even one iota of expectation that this could be a sequel equal to Captain Fantastic and the Brown Dirt Cowboy (1975). Whereas Captain Fantastic covered five years in the late 1960s “before the flood”, this "Captain" looks at nearly 40 years of mega-stardom, drugs, depression and AIDS. Sung to the same tune as Captain Fantastic, The Captain & the Kid is pure reminiscing with restrictions: “Shaped our futures, you a Tumbleweed and me on a Yellow Brick Road”.
