Weddings have been hit hard during the Covid-19 crisis with wedding receptions either banned or restricted to just 15 people, and most nuptials therefore cancelled. The industry will have missed out on almost all of the income from the 13,488 wedding receptions that usually happen in December, on top of the almost 300,000 wedding receptions that have not taken place since the crisis began in March, according to the party’s analysis. Mr Miliband said: “The wedding industry plays a huge role in what is for many people one of the most special days in their life and plays a crucial role in our economy. “Businesses in the wedding industry are seriously struggling, having lost out on almost half a billion pounds just this December, as well as losing their entire peak season. Ministers should also set out a clear roadmap for the wedding industry for 2021 to help give couples looking to get married confidence to start planning.
