When you’re playing on a stage and down the road Kanye or Pharrell is playing — you’re there with all these major artists that are dominating the world — it lights a fire under you. I had actually reached the point where I figured I’d play music recreationally but not pursue it as a career. The LP cover is all plants and flowers, so it would be nice if people were relaxing or maybe playing frisbee. We don’t feel like we’re a punk rock band — we eat avocados and ice cream. So when I sing, ‘Do you think I might be lying in the next sentence?’ I’m playing on the idea that everything I’m saying is apparently the ultimate truth in the song.
