Distilleries such as Ardberg on Islay that offer taster drams are a draw for tourists Getty ImagesThe weak pound is believed to have helped Scotch whisky distilleries to attract record numbers of visitors last year. Figures published yesterday by the Scotch Whisky Association showed that 1.7 million people had visited, up 8 per cent on the previous year. Whisky festivals also helped to bring in people. Distilleries took £53 million in ticket sales and other purchases, up from £50 million. More than half of Scotland’s 123 distilleries are open to visitors.
